Bible Stories for Children – Geoffrey Horn, Arthur Cavanaugh, Arvis Stewart (Illustrator)

The illustrations look very serious, not suitable for children in my opinion. The biblestories are fine but why not go for one which has lively illustrations for your kids?

Bible Stories for Children

The Usborne Family Bible – Heather Amery

Good coverage of the bible and suitable for older children who do not rely on the illustrations (which seemed a little ‘serious’ to me).

The Usborne Family Bible

Bible Stories for the Very Young – Jan Barger

The illustration is very lively and suitable for kids. Good for parents who do not mind not having a comprehensive list of bible stories as there are only about 20 in this book.

The Biggest Bible Storybook – Anne Adeney, Ruth Rivers (Illustrator)

There are about 50 stories for the old testament and 100 for the new testament. The biblestories are told as stories through a girl, Eva to her brother. Eva’s storytelling to her brother serve as a lead-in for every chapter.

While this is a refreshing approach, it may pose some difficulty for parents to tell the biblestory to their children and start it off with a girl trying to tell that same story to her brother! Also, it may give young children the impression that it’s stories passed from one generation to the next, rather than being the true bible.

The illustration is however lively and pretty.

C.S. Lewis – Mere Christianity

Bought this book because of the famous quote that helped me become a Christian:

“But let us not come with any patronising nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

C.S. Lewis has the amazing ability to put things across plainly. Many of his analogies helped my understanding of Christianity and here are some of them:

Norman Vincent Peale – The Power of Positive Thinking

I learnt about this book when I was reading Donald Trump’s How to Get Rich and he recommended Norman Vincent Peale’s The Power of Positive Thinking. This is a good book that encourages people through the bible. Incidentally, one of Donald Trump’s first quote in his book is from his mom “Trust in God and be true to yourself”. Being a young christian, I love to learn how God is encouraging us through His Word.

Below are some of my favourite encouraging quotes and there are many more with testimonies that Peale gave in this book:
