From my dearest friend who got the comic book ‘Tundra‘ and the cartoonist’s autograph to guess who? Mrs Clay! Thanks so much for this :)

甜心涩女郎 - 朱德庸

senulang-comic.jpg

This comic strip is simply delightful! About 4 single ladies with different personalities staying in the same apartment. The gags (in chinese) are in 4 vertical frames accompanied by witty ‘truths’ about men-women relationship in modern times. The gags are real smart that play with chinese words and easy to appreciate for ladies.

It’s real fun reading how one of them is so desperate to get hitched while another has lots of suitors lined up. Particularly for the plain jane or bridget jones, it’s a must read.

Martin’s Morning 马丁的早晨

Martin MorningMartin is a young boy who wakes up everyday to a new adventure. In this first book of the series, he finds himself turning into a dragon. On the second morning, he wakes up to find a new friend, a talking dog. Each morning is a short read and it’s amazing that the characters in the comic book are able to accept all these out-of-the world happenings to martin!

Martin’s Morning comic is wonderfully drawn, colored and very often, the characters cross frames. A bit difficult for me to appreciate in terms of the gags, but kids love it (from what I observed in the bookstore).

Wu Long Yuan - Ao You Xiang

wuloom-1.jpg

This cartoon book is the first in the series for Wu Long Yuan, a comic strip of everything that happens at this martial arts school. For one, it’s in Chinese and if you do understand, the humor is good though sometimes a little slapstick. The cartoons are all in color and nicely drawn. It differs from typical western comic strip where the happenings centre on a few characters, cos there are dozens of characters in the strip. Also, less focus on character development and more on the quirky stuff that you can expect in a martial arts school.

I have tried searching google for the site, it’s impossible to find so here’s the link to find out more about the cartoonist www.wuloom.com

Cartoon Devotional - On Holy Ground

holy-ground-cartoon.jpg

I had the chance to attend fellowship last friday and this cartoon came to me when singing Holy Ground by Christopher Beatty and Geron Davis.

The lyrics goes like ” this is holy ground.. we’re standing on holy ground…’ and I just thought that in life, we are so afraid of stepping into holes! Like the roads in China which are full of holes, I really got to thread carefully. However, another thought came to me that though we think we’ll drop into the holes and go to great length to avoid stepping into one, God will not let us fall.. no matter what.

btw, I’ve got to apologise for taking 2.5 weeks to post this entry. Been really tired since my new job in China.
