Blessings in Bible Storytelling Ministry

So far, I have concentrated on my bible storytelling skills, i.e. am I engaging the audience? did I get the bible message across? did i speak too fast?

But today, the Lord has a surprise for me - I got a special message when preparing to tell Ruth & this was most unexpected.

Unexpected because 1) the preparation was done on short notice as another lady fell ill and 2) I had already read Ruth thoroughly the week before when I gave an overview of the book.

Here’s the message: I’m called to make a sacrifice for my husband. This sealed the messages that I’ve been getting for this week to make that sacrifice, something which I’ve resisted for the past year.

As I let him know my willingness to change my plan to support & love him, lots of tension dissipated from our relationship & we felt more assured that the Lord will guide & support us.

An unexpected blessing.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven - Mitch Albom

Eddie died in an accident on job in the Ruby Point Amusement Park. Thereafter, he met five people who helped him to realise more about his past and how their paths had crossed. More importantly, the innermost feelings that he’d not expressed on earth were released in heaven.

Certain sections of the book were beautiful and touching while others didn’t make much of an impression and seemed cliche. Overall, an easy read with a good flow.

Tuesdays with Morrie - Mitch Albom

This is a book that will get many to think about what matters most to them in life as it touches on death, family, emotions and purpose in life. I would however refrain from commenting too much because I feel that this book will likely be one that will impact people very differently; if you’re like me who has been thinking and searching for purpose all along, this book will not come very useful as there is no particular ‘formula’ or structured advice (not that there exists a formula but well, we’re talking about takeaway messages and advice worth paying for). However, if you are seldom in touch with your life, often preoccupied with work, with the material world or for whatever reasons, do not feel very much at peace with what you’re doing, this book will get you thinking.

Visit Mitch Albom’s site too & he really hosts sports show in real life.

The Essential Calvin and Hobbes: A Calvin and Hobbes Treasury - Bill Watterson

0590819240.01-A3Q75JVTCIX1WN._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpgI must confess that this is the first calvin and hobbes cartoon book that I’ve read and I finally understood why so many would fall in love with it! The gags are funny and easy to relate; parents, husband, wife, mother, kid and adventurous folks will find that this book bring humor and fun to their situations in life. For me, who is learning to draw cartoons, I’m really very (to the power of infinity) impressed with the drawings! It’s real, perspective, angle and proportion well captured, funny and unique expressions and daring in many ways.

I’m getting more of calvin and hobbes!

How to Draw Cartoons, a book for the Budding Cartoonist by a Cartoonist - Peter Maddocks

A book that gives you many examples of facial expressions, hands, legs and body movements. The cartoon style is fairly consistent throughout the book so you will not get a feel of different styles or different look for the characters (I mentioned this cos that’s what I was looking out for). There’s no drawing technique in the book so this book is more like a handy reference for different expressions, hands, legs.. etc.
