Engaging People about Church Ministry

As these 2 weeks I’m off-duty for the bible storytelling sessions (which is my church ministry), I’m taking the chance to learn more about the various ways to engage people online about ministry. Since setting up CluelessClay in December 05, I have had 2 directions on how I intend to do so:

1. Sharing Sincerely - When I first joined a homecell (even before I received Christ), I was puzzled why Christians need to meet up weekly to share their ‘life stories’. One fine week (after I received Christ for about 1 month), it hit me in the midst of a homecell discussion that ‘..we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.’ 2 Corinthians 1:3-5; I believe that sharing, comforting and encouraging christians, especially those who are taking their first step into ministry, is very important and often lacking.
When I decided to get off the baby bottle and take the step to ‘mature’, I felt a sense of loss and uncertainty.
‘Which area should I serve?’ ‘What can I do?’ ‘Can I say no if I don’t feel comfortable?’ These are questions which I felt that there’s noone I could ask: Church leaders/ actively serving mature christians, christians who are not in any ministry or non-christians would all have their own (and likely different) answers. With this in mind, I decided to share sincerely (and authentically) on my baby steps in ministry.

2. Share light-heartedly - Through bible storytelling, I was even more convinced that engaging people could be done in a light hearted manner. Instead of putting just success stories and how-to-get-it-right tips, I draw cartoons and laugh at myself. Sometimes, we know how to get it right but we simply can’t get it right!

I found that ShareForMinistry and OrangeJack are two really good sites. ShareForMinistry allows people to share their stories, anchored on a bible verse. OrangeJack has this opportunity for people to participate in helping new believers in their walk through online correspondences (I would volunteered if I’m not involved with so much ministry, biblestories, cartoons plus office work!). Meanwhile, if you have any advice for me, a ‘toddler’ christian, or you like to share your baby steps, do feel free to drop me a comment or email :)

Thanks for the link! I understand busy schedules too! But I think you can have a nice ministry with your blog too. We’re trying some stuff out at www.DiscussDaVinci.com if you want to stop by and see what I mean.
