Build a Better Life by Stealing Office Supplies - Scott Adams

Hilarious! A light-hearted look at office life from the dress code, dealing with boss and co-workers to handling meetings. Since I’m trying to improve my cartooning, I paid special attention to the facial expressions, body proportion etc. I realised that Scott Adams is really winning readers through his gags as the facial expressions may not vary much from one strip to the other but I wouldn’t even have noticed as the gags are so funny.

How to be a Successful Cartoonist - Randy Glasbergen

Randy Glasbergen is the cartoonist behind the comic panel ‘The Better Half’ and his works are seen in newspapers, greeting cards, magazines, books and advertising. Of course, with lots more on his site Glasbergen.

This book does not aim to provide cartooning techniques but rather offers lots of valuable advice & encouragement from Glasbergen. The fun and interesting section is profiles of many other cartoonists; how they started off, how long it took them before their cartoons are accepted and most importantly, personal advice from these great cartoonists!

How to be a Successful Cartoonist also enlightens the aspiring cartoonists how to send in their work, what to take note when making a submission and provides many resources of where to get magazine listing and what books to read to improve. At the end of the day, I know it will be hard work driven by passion and perserverance with lots of practice in creating gags and drawing.

A recommended read for sure!

Engaging People about Church Ministry

As these 2 weeks I’m off-duty for the bible storytelling sessions (which is my church ministry), I’m taking the chance to learn more about the various ways to engage people online about ministry. Since setting up CluelessClay in December 05, I have had 2 directions on how I intend to do so:

1. Sharing Sincerely - When I first joined a homecell (even before I received Christ), I was puzzled why Christians need to meet up weekly to share their ‘life stories’. One fine week (after I received Christ for about 1 month), it hit me in the midst of a homecell discussion that ‘..we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.’ 2 Corinthians 1:3-5; I believe that sharing, comforting and encouraging christians, especially those who are taking their first step into ministry, is very important and often lacking. All About Frogs - Jim Arnosky

This is a children’s book on.. all about frogs!

Great pictures on different types of frogs, illustrated rather than photographed, and yet looked real with a touch of fun!

One fact that I’ve learnt about frogs is that only the male frogs croack to attract the females!

Also explains the difference between frogs and toads.

Easter’s Resurrected Mission

Today, I decided to take a step back from the bible stories or rather from being too focused on writing a complete set of bible stories. As mentioned in my previous blog, I lost all the bible stories that I had written and pondered whether this would be a chance to reconsider the presentation of the bible stories. While modifying the bible is out of question, I had the idea to include cartoons in the stories (instead of illustrations). Watch out for more cartoons in this blog!
