Adobe Illustrator - New to me

For this blog and my bible story site, I wanted to do some logos. And I only heard of Adobe Illustrator (and not even heard of the terms bitmap images and vector graphics), so I decided to try to learn.. on my own. (I had, very long ago, attended freehand and photoshop classes, but was so lost that I learnt nothing at the end of the very expensive design class.)

To date, the following are my designs and I will post how I got to doing this from a complete dummy (and no, I did not read the Dummy series).

Confirmed NO SIMILAR PRODUCT in the e-market. Continue reading ‘Both Chinese and English - Is it worth the effort?’

Biblical and Commercial Challenges

Just a quick browse at the children bible stories in the library, I see some challenges in authoring bible stories.

I decided to focus on the preschooler age because one of the objectives of my bible stories is to teach elementary Chinese with Pinyin. Since the Chinese must match the English in any bilingual book, it follows that the English has to be elementary too. Moreover, in serving church ministry that involves storytelling, the focus is not on the language but rather on the animation and simplicity.

Children Bible Stories - Get started with research

First, I decided to head down to the library, children’s section. Then, I realized that unlike the adult section, there was no section on religion. Instead, the books were labeled in two broad categories, storybooks and information books. Storybooks were categorized according to age, preschoolers, 6-9, 9-12, 10-12. Information books were categorized into two age groups, preschoolers and 6-12.
