Time to Get off the Baby Bottle

After turning 2-year old in my Christian life, I decided that it is time to get off the baby bottle.

In the past two years, I have grown from (1) non-christian to Christian in Shanghai (2) understanding the significance of and fitting (very well) in my Shanghai bible study group (3) settled at my current church in Singapore (after a difficult transition period of coming back to Singapore with a new christian identity) and (4) blessed with my Singapore bible study group.

Each progression took about six months and after being so well supported by my church community, I decided to get off the baby bottle and start serving in a church ministry.

Which church ministry to start?

When I decided to get off the baby bottle and take the step to ‘mature’, I felt a sense of loss and uncertainty. ‘Which area should I serve?’ ‘What can I do?’ ‘Can I say no if I don’t feel comfortable?’ These are questions which I felt that there’s noone I could ask: Church leaders/ actively serving mature christians, christians who are not in any ministry or non-christians would all have their own (and likely different) answers. With this in mind, I decided to share sincerely (and authentically) on my baby steps in ministry. [...]

  • [...] There are, however, pros that make me take that leap for a baby: (1) improve communication with my parents on the bible; I came back to Singapore partly to tell my parents about Jesus and bring them to church. But, I have not been successful in explaining the bible to them because I do not know how to do so in Cantonese. (2) Enjoy the Cantonese service and like to be part of it and (3) Get off that Baby Bottle! [...]
